My product impact contributed to a broad based improvements in key growth metrics. This in turn proved instrumental in the eventual sales of Invoice2go to Bill.com in late 2021.

At Invoice2go I oversaw the Workflows Group which consisted of five scrum teams. The group owned the majority of the customer facing features and was focused on transforming Invoice2go to become a comprehensive platform for small businesses. My success at Invoice2go is further evidenced by the succession of promotions I received. I eventually left the business as a Senior Manager of Product Management.

Product Highlights

Invoice2go Projects

I managed the end to end delivery of the Projects feature. This involved first diving deeply into the problem space with in depth and ongoing discovery exercises, including customer interviews, user journey mapping, engineering workshops etc.

We then conducted another round of customer interviews with a Figma prototype that enabled us to further understand the problem and iterate on our proposed solution.

Next my design and engineering counterparts and I got work on scoping our alpha product. We strategically devised an alpha that would not only address the key customer problems but also provide us with unprecedented insights that would inform following iterations.

The feedback from the alpha allowed us to further refine the problem statement for the feature. Projects’ would narrow focus and now aim to centralise all the information small businesses need to win a job and get the work done. This was instrumental in the success of the feature that has now been used by over 40k users.

Instant Websites

Our discovery and conversations with our customers led us to realise that over 50% of our small business customers did not have an online presence. This pressing problem was holding our customers back from winning more work.

Working closely with Engineering and Corp Dev we realised the most cost efficient and timely means to tackle this problem would be via an acquisition. After reviewing many potential products we acquired a CMS tool called “Book Launch”.

Once acquired I quickly spun up a team to integrate the product. I coordinated a plan with broader stakeholders such as Product Marketing and Customer Success, to successfully integrate the solution into the Invoice2go app. This included discovery work to adapt the feature to the unique needs of Invoice2go’s customer base. Instant Websites was launched in June 2021, which saw over 2k websites being created by small businesses.

Engage

I oversaw the development of Invoice2go’s first marketing and CRM tool called ‘Engage’. Engage is helping thousands of small businesses develop and maintain closer relationships in order for them to win more work.

Working with an awesome team, we managed to launch a beta in May and quickly pivot the value prop after addressing feedback rapidly. The pivot was followed by a full release in which we have already seen 1,000s of communications result in our customers winning more jobs.

August 2018 - March 2020

Product Manager, Workrise (AFK RigUp)

RigUp (now Workrise) is an online marketplace based in Austin Texas, disrupting the energy industry, connecting buyers with suppliers to on-demand and employment services.

Impact Summary

  • Being one of the first teams to follow an agile methodology. Inspiring other teams to then follow suit.

  • Drive cross functional growth team (Marketing, Sales, Operations, Product) towards company acquisition objectives

  • Releasing an end to end referrals program. Automating the process as well as building a new compelling offer. Which increased customer referrals by 50% YoY

Product Highlights

Next Day Pay launch

In late 2018 I launched RigUp’s faster payment option “Next Day Pay'' along with a variety of broader offerings that resulted in over $1m growth in ARR. Charged to expand our contractor product offering and grow ARR we discovered the most pressing needs for contractors was getting paid faster and health care insurance. As such, we brought together the whole company to sprint towards a solution in time for the open enrollment health care window.

Mobilising teams from Product, Engineering, Design, Support, Payment Operations, Customer Success we soon devised a means to pay contractors within 24 hours of a timesheet being submitted.

In parallel, we formed a relationship with a healthcare broker to provide best in market health insurance options.

We tested these solutions with contractors and the feedback was extremely positive. We then iterated and tested the solutions in a variety of packages with different price points.

Understanding our hard deadline in October, I lead the scrum team to launch the new features in only several sprints. The new packages were a huge success, not purely in terms of ARR but also acted as a key differentiator from competitors, contributing to customer acquisition.

New Referral Program

Tasked with increasing contractor referrals and automating the process, I developed a new referral product that increased referrals by ~50%. It also cut the admin from 4 hours per referral to less than 10 minutes.  This involved understanding the unique nature of contractor referrals by conducting extensive interviews with contractors, sales, payments and operations team members.

I divided the project into three distinct sub-problems.

  1. Contractor referral process

  2. Sales referral process

  3. Automating referral processing

This early breakdown of the project enabled us to release value sooner.

For each sub-problem I worked closely with my design and engineering counterpart. We tackled each sub-problem by prototyping and testing our solution with customers and relevant internal stakeholders. The end result was our team was able to ship value quickly, resulting in both revenue and operational efficiency benefits.

Next Day Pay Improvements

After the successful launch of Next Day Pay in late 2018 I had been continually reviewing quantitative data as well as customer feedback. This led me to discover opportunities to further improve the feature. The most notable was the discovery that many customers needed Next Day Pay for specific timesheets, as opposed to all. We quickly tested the ability to toggle payment speeds at the timesheet level (previously it was only the profile level). The tests showed more volume of time sheets being processed with Next Day Pay. We proceeded to launch the feature to all customers resulting in an increase in ARR of $500k.
